In 2002 I began using a small repertory that I made for myself, modelled after Boger's Synoptic Key. I called it smallrep, as it contained very few rubrics, and I was amazed at the results I was getting. I showed it to my friend, Chirag Wazir, a computer programmer. Looking at it, he told me the relationships between drugs could be represented by a simple mathematical formula. Our collaboration over several years led to the development of the program PhaseRep. Over the years, we worked on several issues like choosing the most important rubrics and drugs for them, the specific sequence of events in the program, database management, a simpler user interface etc. For every idea that I had, Chirag was able to write a program, and we tried and discarded several ideas. PhaseRep has developed into an amazing program, that often gives unexpected and excellent results.
PhaseRep is so called because it repertorizes patient rubrics in two phases. The first phase takes common rubrics, and suggests specific rubrics that might be applicable to the case. Once you choose rubrics that apply, a second phase of repertorization occurs, which suggests possible remedies. PhaseRep consists of 400 primary rubrics... in biblical terms, it is David as compared to the other Goliath-like repertory software in existence, which have thousands of rubrics (and growing).
I have found PhaseRep to be a very useful companion to conventional repertories. In some cases, it gives better results, and in others, the regular repertory programs are more useful. They complement each other. In the final analysis, a repertory is only a tool to help you consider a group of drugs. One never prescribes a drug based on repertorization without studying the resulting drugs in the standard materia medicas like Boericke, Phatak etc. PhaseRep can be used on any computer or tablet, since the processing is done on the web server, and the results downloaded. Please read the instructions carefully before using the program.
PhaseRep is and will remain a free service for homoeopathic physicians the world over. I have benefited immensely both from the system of homoeopathy itself, as well as from my teachers, who shared their knowledge unstintingly. Over time, other resources will be added to the site - similar small programs we have worked on together, that I find useful. We hope they are equally useful to the end user, and serve the cause of Homoeopathy.
